SimplWeb was Barrie North's brainchild.
Barrie North is the author of the #1 selling book - "Joomla! A User's Guide: Building a Successful Joomla! Powered Website's
He has over 15 years of experience with the Internet: as a user, designer and teacher. As a former high school teacher and educator, he has received national awards for innovative educational methods.
He is a partner of JoomlaShack, one of the highest traffic Joomla! sites online, providing templates, extensions and custom services.
He has helped over 150 businesses and organizations get online with Joomla, including such clients as the University of Delaware and the City of Longwood.
He also maintains a blog about all things Joomla at compassdesigns.net. Through is work at Compass Designs, he has been teaching about Joomla at Joomla University, in fact Barrie will be teaching classes in the northeast soon (additional classes offered elsewhere in the US):

Why did Barrie create SimplWeb?
In Barrie's words from a recent newsletter:
"I am able to speak with many people about their experiences about Joomla and about how great it is for their website, but almost every single person says they struggled to create their own site.
- They couldn't set up the server
- They couldn't figure out how to organize the content
- They just needed to ask someone a simple question
Joomla is one of the most powerful open source content management systems on the planet. It powers everything from government and corporate sites to ecommerce and hobby sites. There are over 20 million website's powered by Joomla on the web.
Some of them look great and are successful sites. Some of them don't and are a money pit for the webmaster.
They all use Joomla, but the difference is HOW the site is built, set up and configured. Not only that, Joomla versions change quickly, and keeping everything updated is hard.
Over the last two years I have seen people try to use Joomla to create a site, but it was too complex and there was no reliable help.
I want to change that."
